A shining example
Stewart McCulloch is a quiet unassuming man. A Husband and Father. A Qualified Plumber, and a Small Business Owner. He is just like so many hard working Australians doing what they can to make an honest living.
What makes Stewart worthy of recognition is his tireless dedication to the community.
Last month he spent countless hours erecting Christmas lights on his home in Shailer Park on Brisbane’s southern outskirts.
He erected in excess of 100,000 lights and painstakingly designed and constructed one of Brisbane’s most impressive Christmas Home Light displays. In addition to the lights, there was a Jesus birthing stable, sleighs, reindeer, illuminated Santas, and he even constructed a working snow machine to make Santa feel at home on his visit to Australia in the depths of a hot southern hemisphere summer.
Now, many people construct Christmas lighting displays for their children and grandchildren’s delight, however Mr. McCulloch’s children are well in their teens, and he has no grandchildren. Mr. McCulloch spent more than 9 weeks creating, designing and constructing the display for two very simple, and selfless reasons - To provide enjoyment for the local community, and the literally, thousands of children, (and their families) who came to see this amazing display, and also to raise money for the St. Vincent De Paul Society.
Mr McCulloch and his neighbours raised and donated in excess of $1,600 on behalf of the Logan community which was collected by the appreciating visitors.
When Cyclone Larry devastated North Queensland’s small town of Innisfail, Mr. McCulloch was one of the first to travel to North Queensland and spent weeks donating his time to help local residents in need repair their homes and lives.
Winning the Zone 4 Best Residential Lighting Display for his efforts was much appreciated by Mr. McCulloch because all prizemonies are all donated to charity.
Well done Stewart and a sincere thank you from the St. Vincent De Paul Society and the many beneficiaries of your goodwill.
Mr. McCulloch is the owner of South East Queensland’s Q Mate Property Maintenance Services.
