Brisbane City Council announces another large off-leash park for dogs in West End

West End dog owners are set to enjoy a large off-leash park in Orleigh Park after a location was agreed between the South Brisbane Sailing Club and GPS Rowing Club buildings

Environment and Sustainability Chair Peter Matic said work on the fenced dog off-leash area – which will include a seat and drinking tap - was planned to begin early next year and take about a week to complete.

“Parks are an incredibly important part of our work and that’s why every year we invest $92 million in the city’s 2000 parks to maintain and enhance them for Brisbane families to enjoy our fantastic outdoor lifestyle" said Cr Matic.

“We understand how important parks are for the lifestyle of leafy West End in particular, and that’s why we have another seven major green and open spaces planned for the suburb over the next five to 10 years.”

Cr Matic said changes were occurring as the West End Riverside Parklands project progressed and Council was keen to make sure dogs and sports groups all had access to this beautiful area.

“This section of Orleigh Park has always been used for active sporting uses such as sailing and rowing and we want to see this continue as well as welcoming other users,” he said.

The new dog park is a boon for new residents, too, according to Werine Erasmus, Marketing Manager for the new Riverpoint Apartments complex nearby.

“Those who have bought at Riverpoint Apartments because of our pet friendly policy have also been enticed by the fact that Orleigh Park is right on our door step, which provides a variety of exercise options for both owners and their pets,” says Werine.
