Electric bikes the go

Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for Brisbane commuters?

Increasing traffic congestion, concern for the environment and the current economic climate have prompted a new local business owner to devise the perfect commuter solution – the electric bicycle.

Mark PelmoreMark Pelmore from Good Concepts, based in West End, believes electric bicycles are the answer for people who like to pedal but don’t have the stamina to ride 10km or 20km to work.

“People want to avoid bumper-to-bumper congestion and reduce their carbon footprint – but this doesn’t always appeal to their work colleagues who are greeted in the morning by a sweaty cyclist,” says Mark.

Mark believes electric bicycles are the way of the future.

“Electric bicycles mean commuters can get to work with no carbon emissions, no traffic hassles and no fuel, license or registration expenses,” Mr Pelmore said.

“My commute to work from Bardon to our shop in West End takes 20 minutes every day regardless of road works, accidents and any other peak hour woes — and it only costs me five cents to recharge my battery every 80kms.”

Commuters can comfortably travel up to 30km/h on a Good Concepts electric bike without peddling.

“Riders can choose to pedal while the engine is engaged or they can press a button and turn the surprisingly quiet engine off and use pedal power alone.”

Mark says Good Concepts has a bike to suit everybody.

“Our range of electric bicycles caters for all ages and all levels of fitness.  We’ve got a tricycle with a large carry basket that is suitable for older people or couriers and a  fold-away bicycle that is great or caravans and yachts.”

Mark says his goal is to find the vehicle that his customers feel most comfortable with.

“We tend to see the very active mobile people opting for the mountain bikes or ‘Mantis’.

Good Concepts stock an extensive range of bicycles,  and provide electric conversion kits and a full installation service for people who already have an existing bike that’s not quite ready to be relegated to the back of the shed.

Good Concepts is located at 26 Horan St, West End.  Visit www.goodconcepts.com.au or phone 073844 6004
