Relief is at hand!

Construction nears completion of the new public toilet facility in Musgrave Park

After more than 12 months without this basic facility, the new toilet block in Musgrave Park, South Brisbane will open shortly.

The $150 000 three cubicle toilet block replaces the dilapidated facility in the centre of the park.

“The location of the new toilet block permits casual surveillance from Cordelia Street and so will reduce the likelihood of vandalism and graffiti” said Cr Abrahams.

The toilet block is designed along CPTED (Crime Prevention through Environment Design) principles further increasing safety for users.

“I could see there would be no funds in the Lord Mayor’s budget for these toilets, so I allocated funds as one of the final projects from The Gabba Ward Trust Fund” said Helen Abrahams.

“I am delighted that finally toilets are restored to Musgrave Park. It has been too long a wait” said Cr Abrahams.

“The replacement of the toilets in this well used city park has been “no can do” for 12 months”.

“This park is used by people across Brisbane so the toilets should have been funded from rate payers funds rather than from funds ear-marked for local ward projects. It just was not possible to wait until the 2010-11 Budget ” said Cr Abrahams.
