Growing community gardens

Spiral Community Hub holds two events to promote community gardening in West End.
People from different local cultures have become involved in community gardening and are creating a multicultural garden, which will be exhibited at the Multicultural Food & Gardens Day.

The Multicultural Food & Gardens Day on 29th November at SPIRAL’s Jane St community garden in West End will celebrate the planting of the new multicultural garden.

Along with cultural performances and opportunity to try different traditional foods, the event will promote the sharing of gardening skills and knowledge of traditional foods from a variety of local cultures.

This multicultural garden will be planned and planted by members of different local communities who have an interest in growing and sharing their traditional foods.

A second event, the Bush Tucker and Bush Foods Day will be held a week later on 7th November at Paradise Park bush foods community garden, and will be an important opportunity for all people to experience and learn more about the foods which are native to Australia, Aboriginal traditional foods and culture.

These events are managed by SPIRAL Community Hub and funded by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship are part of the Growing Together in Inner South Brisbane project, which promotes participation in community gardens, as well as the sharing of local cultures’ foods and gardening skills.

This project is proudly supported by the Australian Government’s Living in Harmony program.  Administered by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, the Living in Harmony program aims to promote mutual respect, Australian values, participation in the Australian way of life and a sense of belonging for everyone.
