"Nature is my paintbrush"
South Brisbane Artist and Tutor Lily Karmatz Featured in International Floral Art Book
Lily Karmatz, an Ikebana tutor at the Budo Kaikan—Martial Arts Studio in South Brisbane, has had three of her works selected and published by Stitching Kunstboek, Belgium.
One of her installations features an Australian landscape. Created in Brisbane’s Toohey Forest, the installation uses dead branches and other materials found only in this forest. (see photos) The installation incorporates them with fresh gerberas and ornamental chilies.
This is the second time the artist’s work has been chosen by the Belgium publisher.
The book will be launched in Belgium on 10 December at a local art gallery. Titled Contemporary Ikebana, it includes more than 100 well known international floral artists and their works presented in full colour. Contemporary Ikebana will be distributed internationally to individuals and bookstores.
Ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arranging, has a world-wide following. The book will also be picked up by international art galleries and libraries.
Ms Karmatz will have one of her Ikebana creations on display at the Queensland Art Gallery from the 5th to the 12th of December. She holds a diploma in Art from the Brisbane Institute of Art and has had numerous contemporary art exhibitions in Brisbane.
For those interested in obtaining a copy of the book, it can be ordered through the artist’s website: www.artislily.com .
