Florentine success for Janine
In December 2011 Janine moved to Brisbane from Mackay and now loves her new environment which nurtures her artistic pursuits. It was at this time that the International Florence Biennale selected her as an entrant to the 2011 exhibition.Janine traveled to Florence Italy with the assistance of a Queensland Artstart Grant in December to be a part of the 8th edition of the Florence Biennale hosted at the Fortezza de Basso (http://www.florencebiennale.org/en/ebiennale11.php ).
The Biennale honoured the master José Luis Cuevas and designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada with lifetime achievement awards, and showcased more than 500 artists from all over the world in categories of painting, installations, sculpture, digital media, photography and mixed medium.
The exhibition was inaugurated on the 3rd December and continued until the 10th December when the international jury (http://www.florencebiennale.org/en/egiuria11.php ) announced the winners of each category. Janine Whitling from Australia won a "Lorenzo il Magnifico" fourth place medal award for her hanging installation "Metamorphosis".
After returning to Australia Janine is keen to find gallery representation locally and get more involved in the art scene in Queensland.
