UFO's - Where it all began

The modern phenomena of UFOs and "flying saucers" began in Washington state on June 24, 1947 - by Dave Reneke

American businessman Kenneth Arnold spotted nine mysterious, high-speed objects "flying like a saucer would" along the crest of the Cascade Range. His report made international headlines and triggered hundreds of similar accounts of "flying saucers" locally and across the nation. The rash of sightings peaked on July 8, 1947, when the U.S. Army reported that flying saucer wreckage had been found near Roswell, New Mexico. This was retracted the following day, and despite relentless debunking and the absence of concrete evidence, reports of flying saucers and other unidentified flying objects (UFOs) persist to the present day.

While flying in his private airplane near Mt. Rainier en route from Chehalis, Washington, to his home in Boise, Idaho, Kenneth Arnold (1915-1984) was startled by a bright light shortly before 3 p.m., on June 24, 1947. He looked north and saw nine gleaming objects racing southward along the crest of the Cascades. They were roughly circular in form -- except for one crescent-like object -- about 50 feet across, and appeared metallic. He watched them for approximately two minutes until they disappeared over Oregon.

During a refuelling stop in Pendleton, Oregon, Arnold described his experience to East Oregonian editor Nolan Skiff. He said the vehicles flew in an undulating formation "like a saucer would if you skipped it across the water" and weaved in and out of the mountain peaks at speeds approaching 1,400 m.p.h. Skiff's report of Arnold's encounter with "nine bright saucer-like objects" was picked up by the Associated Press and the "mystery discs" made national headlines on June 26.

Local newspapers and authorities were immediately inundated with other reports of "flying discs" (the term "flying saucers" came later). Several residents of Bremerton, Washington, reported seeing a number of discs during the previous week. The most spectacular reports came on July 4, 1947. In Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver, Washington, scores of citizens and police officers claimed to see dozens of discs overhead. As many as 50 residents of Boise also reported spotting a large formation, and Emil J. Smith, pilot of a United Air Lines DC-3, said his plane was buzzed by several flying disks while en route from Boise to Pendleton that evening.

Eyewitness News Reports: "Glowing UFO Crash Near California."

August 02, 2008 - apparently this sighting was not a falling meteorite. Five black helicopters came immediately after the crash to quickly haul the luminous object away. On May 14th the Eyewitness News Channel 8 reported a large object with a turquoise hue plummeting out of the sky earlier this summer and plowed into the Earth south of Las Vegas. Eyewitnesses say this was no meteorite, especially since they witnessed a group of black helicopters flying in formation to quickly haul it away.

Numerous witnesses to the crashed UFO say it was speeding down towards the Earth and crashed, one witness heard a thud. Five Black helicopters were reported on the scene 17 minutes after the crash with one helicopter identified to be a skycrane helicopter which has a very special design enabling it to carry the large glowing object away from the scene.

One witness reported a group of dark, strange looking vehicles canvassing the area. The men inside had military markings that could not be clearly identified. Their appearance was very similar to 'men in black' according to one witness at the crash site. Witnesses conclude that shortly after the crash there was a very obvious and quiet clean up of the area.

Socorro makes claim as UFO destination

Move over Roswell. There's another New Mexico town staking out a claim as a bona fide member of UFO territory.

It was 1964 in Socorro - with LBJ in the White House, the Beatles on the radio, and Spiderman whipping Doctor Octopus on comic book racks. Socorro Police Officer Lonnie Zamora was chasing a speeder when he heard a big bang and went looking for the source.

According to Zamora, he saw what looked like a flying saucer in an arroyo and two beings outside of it. He heard another bang and the craft flew off. The arroyo is on the south end of the Socorro metroplex and Zamora's site is marked with a pile of rocks, a little plastic flag - and a couple of dead bottle rockets.

Some in city hall want to put up a plaque or a marker at the site. The town's tourism chief says people come through town asking about the Socorro Incident and where it happened

Many Socorroterreans say the story isn't science fiction. "I think it could have happened," said Clark Fisher of Socorro. "Anything's possible. You can't prove it didn't happen."

"I might be the craziest one in his town, but yeah, it probably did," said fellow Socorro resident Dave Hart.

Eyewitness News spoke with Lonnie Zamora last Thursday. While he declined to be interviewed on camera, he sounded fine - 44 years after what may come to be known as the Socorro Incident.

Police flooded with UFO sightings

More than a dozen UFO sightings were reported to police after partygoers attached candles to balloons and released them into the night sky.

Saturday night revellers in Grangemouth, Stirlingshire, were said to be playing a mystery game. But residents in the surrounding area believed the illuminated objects were an alien invasion.

A spokesman for Central Scotland Police said: "We've had call, after call, after call, saying its UFOs." He said they received more than a dozen calls in half an hour.

"It turns out that there's a party going on and they are letting off balloons with candles on. They make a wish and then release them into the sky."

Is this a UFO? 31/ 7/2008 - Unidentified flying objects have been spotted above the skies of Woodley.

Amazed onlookers in the town have told the Evening Post how they witnessed up to 30 strange "bright, orange, globes" in the night sky on Saturday, shortly after 10pm.

Steve Dyke, of Malvern Close, caught the mysterious objects on his camcorder after a night out with wife Karen and children, Jade, 11, and Shannon, aged eight, and a couple of their friends.

He said: "As we pulled up the road we could see these strange orange lights. "We went out into the back garden and the kids were shouting with excitement."

"They were big, circular and even, but I couldn't see any detail as they were quite far away. They kept appearing on the horizon and travelling in the same direction from east to west until they vanished."

Rachel Gormley, 52, and husband Martin also spotted the objects as they headed across the sky from the direction of Woodford Park in groups of two or three over their home in Corbett Gardens.

She said: "They were coming towards us. There were about 20 of them. It was difficult to tell how high or how fast they were going but it was a steady pace. I'd seen nothing like it before. I thought, ‘What is it? A UFO?' and then common sense kicked in. There must be a rational explanation for it all."

One UFO spotter said: "My adrenaline was going through the roof. "I was so interested to read the other reports of people seeing what must have been the same thing. "Wow... I still feel shaky. I seem to have a real sense of urgency and interest to understand what these were."

Another added: "We have just watched in amazement as at least 20 maybe 30 orange lights silently but purposefully drifted across the sky.

The Ministry of Defence said it had not received any reports of UFO sightings in the Reading area on Saturday but would investigate further if there was evidence of a potential threat from hostile activity in UK airspace.

Haven, Florida an Egg Shaped UFO Posted: July 31, 2008 Approx: 2:30 a.m. Shape of objects: Egg.

Full Description of event/sighting, verbatim:

"Around 2:30AM EST, in 2000 me and my dad were outside looking at the stars. My dad went inside to get something and about 5 minutes after he went inside there was an egg shaped object around 20 feet long with two lights on the front of it. There was only 1 window all different colours when the light hits it, it was going around 20 mph 30 feet above me.

It came out of the sky at a high speed, but when it came by me it slowed down then went off and almost hit the phone pole by my house and skimmed the tree in my next door neighbours' yard and flow off to the sky.

Ever since then I've been trying to find more people that saw the UFO I did that night. I have seen 5 UFO's since then with eye witnesses with me. If you live in the Winter Haven area and seen what I saw that night please contact me at: (email removed) Thanks.

Satellites or UFOS over San Jose?

The appearance of at least two fast-moving shining objects in the weekend daytime sky over San Jose has local residents wondering if they were UFOs.

Bob Lochridge, a local resident who recorded the objects, said they streaked across the skies. "They appeared to be triangular pieces of metal," he said. "They were up very, very high. I couldn't see them without the camera."

The objects were first reported above the Oakland Hills at 3 p.m. Sunday and quickly moved southward through the Bay Area skies.

The FAA Air Traffic Control Centre in Fremont did not report any unusual air traffic. Officials said the objects were probably satellites with the sunlight reflecting off their solar panels.
